Starling Power Launches Operations in Tanzania

Starling Power is a newly established Tanzanian renewable energy company, created to deliver high-quality commercial solar solutions for organisations with demanding power requirements.

The company has spun out of more than a decade of applied research, system design, and field implementation led by Smart Villages, in close partnership with Tanzanian organisation OMASI. This work has been funded by the UK Government and international partners, and has delivered robust solar and hybrid energy systems across Sub-Saharan Africa and South-East Asia.

Starling Power has been formed to translate this proven technical expertise into a dedicated, locally registered commercial entity, capable of contracting, installing, operating, and maintaining large-scale solar systems in Tanzania.

A Tanzanian Company, Built on Proven Expertise

Starling Power was founded by the Managing Directors of Smart Villages and OMASI: Dr Bernie Jones, and Osidai Saning’o.

Operating under the Smart Villages Group and headquartered in Arusha, Starling Power brings together:

  • Over 9 years of experience designing and installing complex solar and hybrid systems in East Africa
  • A local team of trained technicians and engineers
  • Deep experience in systems requiring high reliability, continuous operation, and diesel displacement, including broadcasting, agro-processing, water pumping, and community infrastructure

Our systems typically range from 10 kWp to 150 kWp, incorporating battery storage, hybrid inverter architectures, remote monitoring, and backup generation where required.

Early Projects and Growth Pipeline

Starling Power enters the market with active momentum.
As of Q1 2026, the company has seven commercial solar installations in development, designed to offset large diesel gensets, with several additional projects under advanced negotiation.

These systems are being designed to meet international standards, prioritising:

  • Power continuity and redundancy
  • Long-term operational reliability
  • Reduced fuel costs and emissions
  • Practical operation and maintenance in remote environments

Legal Status

Starling Power received its Certificate of Incorporation from the Business Registrations and Licensing Agency (BRELA) on 15 May 2025, and is fully registered to operate in Tanzania.
