Questions: - How does the lack of access to energy impede women smallholders’ productivity in West Africa? - How does this negatively impact household level food and income security in the region? - What can multilateral stakeholders including businesses do to improve energy access for women-led households and create the enabling conditions for sustainable rural development? |

| Notes: - Question one pertains to women led-smallholders in particular as multiple research papers show that women led agricultural communities are likely to be poorer, have lower security of tenure and access to assets. This is true across the board, but more so in SSA. - Their productivity levels are also likely to be much lower as lack of assets means no access to irrigation facilities. Rain fed agriculture has lower yields as compared to groundwater irrigated agriculture - Question two links to food security, the causal link is lower access to inputs especially water contribute to food insecurity - The third brings in the global actors, I have brought in businesses as the private sector has an important role to play |
